David Ryan Harris
David Ryan Harris
Composer, Producer, Musician
With an impressive career spanning over three decades, David Ryan Harris prides himself on his soulfulness. “People relate to what you’re saying when you sing from the heart,” he says.
Six incredible full-length solo albums and credits working with the likes of John Mayer, Dave Matthews, and India.Arie may verily speak for themselves, but music is the gift that requires continuous proof of concept, and DRH faithfully delivers.
He may be known to some as John Mayer’s guitarist, but the gifted singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist truly stands out on his own. So if you need some legitimate soulfulness, then David Ryan Harris is your man.

Benji Hughes
Benji Hughes
Combining the eclecticism of Beck, the pop-based experimentation of the Flaming Lips, and the bushy facial hair of Rip Van Winkle, Benji Hughes is an eccentric singer/songwriter hailing from Charlotte, NC. A former housepainter, Hughes joined the roster of New West Records during the mid-2000s, having wooed president Cameron Strang with his diverse songcraft and ability to handle multiple instruments. Hughes then decamped to Silverlake, CA, where he crafted his debut album alongside producer Keefus Ciancia and songwriter Gus Seyffert. Priscilla Ahn, a fellow L.A.-based songwriter, performed one of Hughes’ songs on her debut album in June 2008; one month later, Hughes made his own debut with the ambitious two-disc A Love Extreme. Hughes made a cameo appearance in the 2009 film Gentlemen Broncos, and in 2011 he appeared on actor/musician Jeff Bridges‘ eponymous country LP and Meshell Ndegeocello‘s Weather. In 2015 he inked a deal with Merge and headed back into the studio to begin work on a new full-length. The resulting Songs in the Key of Animals dropped in early 2016. ~ Andrew Leahey, Rovi

Isaac Taylor: When Will We Rise – Lyrics
When Will We Rise by Isaac Taylor
My TV feeds me a pill that leaves me with bad dreams and a hole to fill
I ain’t gonna let my TV spin me another war in another land
I ain’t gonna pay my taxes for you to win me a fight that suits your hand
Who do you think you are, telling me that you know what god’s will is?
Who do think you are, selling me that war is the only way out of this?
I ain’t gonna let nobody tell me they know what god’s will is
I ain’t gonna let nobody sell me that war is the only way out of this
No, I ain’t gonna sit here and stare out my window
With you behind doors making dollars and widows
Many more will die, how many more will die?
How many more will you fuel with fear, you fool with your lies?
You will be schooled when we rise, but when will we rise?
When will we rise?
All I can do is raise my voice, I can change the chords and make my choice
To stand up and not be tied to the noose that spreads miles wide
Who do you think you are, telling me that you know?
Look at you standing there, stained red with your black gold
I will not bend and we must not fold, we must not let these stories go untold
We must stand up and not be sold that shedding blood is worth black gold
I aint’ gonna sit here and stare out my window
with you behind doors making dollars and widows
Many more will die, how many more will die?
Many more will die
How many more will you fuel with fear, you fool with your lies?
You will be schooled when we rise but when will we rise?
When will we rise? My TV feeds me a pill that leaves me with bad dreams and a hole to fill
I ain’t gonna let my TV spin me another war in another land

Ben Taylor
Ben Taylor
Ben Taylor listens and thinks. A lot. In fact, the word Word is something Ben mulls over daily. It is, when you think about it, the only word that IS what it means. The meaning of word connects us – in any language – and this idea of communication is very important to Ben, as is the paradox of an individuated consciousness (think: ego) versus collective unconscious, that which unifies us all (happiness, fear, hate, love). Heavy? Not really, just a part of the ever evolving, highly intelligent, vulnerable, loving brain of Ben Taylor, musician, son, brother, friend and deep believer.

Mindhorn
Mindhorn
2017
Scored by Keefus Ciancia & David Holmes
Washed-up actor Richard Thorncroft peaked with hit 1980s detective show ‘Mindhorn’, playing the titular Isle of Man sleuth with a rather unique ability. As a captured MI5 Special Operative, Bruce Mindhorn’s eye was replaced by a super-advanced optical lie detector, which meant he could literally ‘see the truth’. Mindhorn escaped and fled to the Isle of Man, to recuperate in the island’s temperate microclimate, and became the best plain-clothes detective the island had ever seen…
Decades later, when a deranged Manx criminal demands only to speak to “Detective Mindhorn”, Thorncroft returns to the scene of his greatest triumph for one last chance to reignite his glory days and professional credibility.

The stirring five-part mystery, from acclaimed best-selling author Tom Rob Smith (Child 44), stars BAFTA-winner Ben Whishaw (Spectre) in a career-defining performance as Danny, an innocent, young romantic drawn into a dangerous world of espionage. Carly Simon
Songwriter, Composer, Performer, Author – “You’re So Vain”, “Let The River Run,” “Anticipation,” “Coming Around Again”
Carly Simon has an unparalleled career that spans four decades of openhearted storytelling both in song and print. Joining the singer-songwriters of the early 1970’s, Simon changed the public’s conception of pop music to an honest, sensitive and intelligent craftwork. Simon’s biggest success came with 1972’s No Secrets, which included “You’re So Vain.” The album sold millions of copies, occupied the #1 spot on the charts for six consecutive weeks and earned Grammy nominations in six categories. The single still captivates fans not only with its distinctive hook and self-empowering theme, but also with the ongoing mystery of its inspiration – a secret that Simon continues to keep close. Simon has earned Grammys, Oscars and Emmy awards and has expanded her career into film contributions (“Let The River Run,” Working Girl) and scoring (Marvin’s Room, Postcards from the Edge) as well as children’s books (Amy the Dancing Bear, Midnight Farm). Simon was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994.

Laika & The Unit
LAIKA & THE UNIT
Singular stories, inspired lives, internal wanderings and resuscitating ghosts. The exploration of a dreamlike, foggy journey placed into organically orchestrated themes and united with electronic colors, releasing itself from certain forms, structures, configurations and writings.
Founded in Paris, the duo focuses their expertise towards the development of each composition. Laïka carefully crafts melodies and words while Christopher Thomas shape soundscapes to lay Laïka’s stories upon, skillfully mixing images of the creators: free, eclectic, baroque, cinematic, and flawless. This is the alchemy of the duo.
With influences ranging from Messe Pour le Temps Present composed by Pierre Henry for Béjart’s ballet, original soundtracks like Francis Lai’s Le Voyou, Pieces by Daniel Baremboïm with Jacqueline Du Pré, and Purcell by Alfred Deller” to the modern day
echoes of Bjork, allured elements of Portishead and journeys to places reminiscent of Radiohead, Laïka & The Unit have created a collection of songs that explore an in-depth look into our soul. Black is the Color sets the tone of the group.
This luminous union of influences illustrates this alliance as boundless.

FAQ’s
You need to have permission in order to put someone’s music into a film, television programs, video games, advertising, social media outlets, etc. This process of requesting and negotiating a fee and receiving permission is called “music clearance.” After one has received clearance, the process of issuing contracts and payment is called “licensing”. To put a recording underneath picture (to “synchronize”) requires two types of rights clearances, the “Sync Rights” and the “Master Recording Rights”. “Sync Rights” are for the actual words and music used (the “Composition”). “Master Recording Rights” are for the specific recording of that composition (the “Master”).
EXAMPLE… if your film needs the acoustic version of “I Try” as recorded by Ben Taylor, there are two clearances: the “sync rights” for the composition, owned by the writers’ publishers and the “Master Rights” for the recording, owned by Ben Taylor’s record label which is us (Iris Records).
All requests need to be in writing. We’ll be happy to speak with you on the phone, but we will not take clearance requests over the phone. Written requests can be faxed or emailed if in a PDF non editable form. Clearances and licenses are legal documents. If you don’t have access to a fax or are unable to create a PDF and you are serious about licensing music for a project, give us a call. I’m sure we can work something out.
Requests need to include the following info.:
1. Your name, company name, address, phone/fax/email
2. Project name, synopsis, music budget, any other important production detail
3. Song title, artist, album title, record label
4. Scene description – describe the scene in the movie/show
5. Use & timing – instrumental or vocal? How long is the music use?
6. Rights requested (length of term, territories needed, media needed)
7. Deadline for clearance
It completely depends on the situation, popularity of the song and artist, how it’s being used and for how long, etc. That being said, some artists/songs are more expensive than others. In general, We will work with you and try our best to make the placement work.
No, not even one note. You’ll find it much more pleasant to get permission ahead of time instead of having a lawyer or right’s holder call you, costing a fortune in legal and licensing fees. Please contact us for any use of our music or to help with your outside music needs.
If it’s a song we administer, No. It happens. It’s the same with any label or publisher. You only pay if you use the song.
If you are looking to licensing a song outside of our catalog, we’ll charge a fee depending on how far down the road we get with initial research & negotiations with the rights holders but you don’t pay for the actual license unless you use it. All cost structures are discussed up front.
For a one-stop song, it will normally be done within 24 hours. If there are outside publishers, or if we need to speak with the artist or writers, it can take a little bit longer. In the case of a song with major publishers, it’s at their discretion. Normally we’ll be able to estimate for you on a case by case basis.
A “one-stop” clearance means that we can provide clearances and licensing for both sync and master rights. Approval from an outside publisher (such as Warner/Chappell, or any other publisher) is unnecessary in this case. Much of our music is one-stop, helping us to provide easier, faster, and often times less expensive clearances.
We do take on new record labels or possibly artists when the correct situations arise. The best way for you to inquire about this would be to email us information about your label or music. If you have a website to point us to, great. If not, that’s ok too.
DO NOT mail us a random package of your music as it will not be opened or listened to.
No. Our artists will just come back to us to clear the song anyways and will just slow down the process for you. Plus artists usually don’t want to deal with this directly.
Every situation is different but you need to get a license from us no matter what. We are all about the indie spirit, and it’s important to us that our artists and writers get paid for what they do so they can make a living at it but we also would like to support like-minded filmmakers. Feel free to contact us to discuss.

Microsoft launched The Random Adventures of Brandon Generator in 2012, as an HTML5-based four part series of animations showcasing what’s possible on the web without the use of plugins. It’s a film noir-inspired story written by Edgar Wright — the man behind Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Spaced — that follows the story of Brandon Generator, a comic book artist with a terrible case of writer’s block. The artwork comes from illustrator Tommy Lee Edwards, famous for his work on the Batman, Hellboy, and Marvel 1985 comics. Narration comes courtesy of Julian Barratt, one half of The Mighty Boosh. The Soundtrack comes courtesy of the band Unloved (David Holmes, Jade Vincent & Keefus Ciancia).

Based on the popular novel by Willy Vlautin, THE MOTEL LIFE is a searing and profound examination of brotherhood set in the timeless Sierra Nevadan frontier. Frank (Emile Hirsch) and Jerry Lee Flannigan (Stephen Dorff) work odd jobs, drink hard, and drift from motel to motel. Their only escape is through Frank’s fantastic stories and Jerry Lee’s rich illustrations.
Everything changes when Jerry Lee is involved in a hit-and-run accident, which forces the brothers across the state to the home of Frank’s old flame, Annie (Dakota Fanning). While the two seem safe from the law, Jerry Lee’s insatiability and all-consuming guilt render their future increasingly uncertain.
Like an outlaw country song, this directorial debut from real-life brothers Gabe & Alan Polsky finds beauty and hope in a world of casinos, gun shops, dive bars, and in the simple people who inhabit them. The film features animation by Mike Smith.
