LAIKA & THE UNIT

Singular stories, inspired lives, internal wanderings and resuscitating ghosts. The exploration of a dreamlike, foggy journey placed into organically orchestrated themes and united with electronic colors, releasing itself from certain forms, structures, configurations and writings.

Founded in Paris, the duo focuses their expertise towards the development of each composition. Laïka carefully crafts melodies and words while Christopher Thomas shape soundscapes to lay Laïka’s stories upon, skillfully mixing images of the creators: free, eclectic, baroque, cinematic, and flawless. This is the alchemy of the duo.

With influences ranging from Messe Pour le Temps Present composed by Pierre Henry for Béjart’s ballet, original soundtracks like Francis Lai’s Le Voyou, Pieces by Daniel Baremboïm with Jacqueline Du Pré, and Purcell by Alfred Deller” to the modern day
echoes of Bjork, allured elements of Portishead and journeys to places reminiscent of Radiohead, Laïka & The Unit have created a collection of songs that explore an in-depth look into our soul. Black is the Color sets the tone of the group.

This luminous union of influences illustrates this alliance as boundless.
